The 2014 season had seen the arrival of a former Buccaneer assistant coach as Lovie Smith took over the head coaching reins and tried to rebuild the image of the franchise as it had been done under Tony Dungy nearly 20 years earlier. A number of high-priced free agents arrived but nearly all under-performed and the offense struggled all season leaving the Bucs with their worst record in nearly three decades at 2-14 and the first overall pick in the 2015 draft.
