Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13 San Francisco 49ers 6Sunday 31 August 1997 at Houlihans StadiumFOX COMMENTARY CREWKevin Harlan and Jerry Glanville
The Bucs defeated 49ers for the first time in 17 years and became the first team to hold them without a touchdown since November 1991. This was also the first game that the Buccaneers played in their new uniforms and is seen by many as the defining turning point in franchise history as the end of the losing mentality in Tampa. The winning score came at the end of a 52-yard drive led by Mike Alstott’s power running. Tyrone Legette’s interception of Steve Young late in the 4th quarter sealed the victory.
