Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17 Dallas Cowboys 30Sunday 9 January 1983 at Texas StadiumCBS COMMENTARY CREWPat Summerall and John Madden
Despite being outgained 456-218 in total yardage, the Bucs somehow had a 17-16 lead entering the fourth quarter but then a pair of penalties pinned the Bucs deep in their own territory and Monty Hunter' interception return for a score put Dallas ahead to stay. The Cowboys ran almost double the number of plays against a weakened Buc defense missing defensive secondary starters Mike Washington and Cedric Brown through injury. The Tampa defense played heroically in the first half after their offense had not mustered a single first down in its first five possessions. Hugh Green returned a Danny White fumble for a touchdown that he snatched out of midair, and Mark Cotney returned an interception deep into Dallas territory for a Bill Capece fieldgoal.
