The Bucs' first-ever appearance on Monday Night Football was a disappointing one as they were shut out by
the Bears at Soldier Field. An apparent TD pass to Jimmie Giles was nullified by a penalty and a subsequent
fieldgoal attempt was blocked ensuring the Bucs were kept off the scoreboard. Walter Payton gained 122 of
his 134 rushing yards in the second half and the four Bear sacks of Doug Williams were the most he had
sustained in a single game.
