Played two seasons for the Buccaneers starting at defensive tackle before being released during training camp in 1992. Was more of a run-stopper than pass-rusher but still recorded 5.5 sacks in his second season. Originally entered the NFL as a 6th round pick of the Vikings in 1985 and played five seasons in Minnesota. Spent the 1993 season as a back-up in Kansas City before retiring. Was the brother of Dallas All-Pro guard Nate Newton.
