LOVIE SMITH 8-24 Appointed to become the Bucs' 10th head coach in January 2014 to succeed Greg Schiano. This was a return to Tampa as he had been part of Tony Dungy's original coaching staff back in 1996. He had then moved on to a role as Defensive Co-Ordinator with the St.Louis Rams that included a trip to the Super Bowl in 2001 before being named head coach of the Chicago Bears in 2004. He was with the Bears for nine seasons posting a record of 81-63 and 3-3 in the post-season that included making the Super Bowl in 2006 where he lost to Dungy's Indianapolis Colts. His first season in Tampa was a tough one with off-season free agent signings not working out and the record of 2-14 saw the Bucs finish bottom of the NFC South division for a fourth straight season but did lead to the selection of franchise QB Jameis Winston with the first overall selection. 2015 saw an improvement to six wins but the defensive scheme came in for criticism throughout the year and it seemed as though the Bucs were winning in spite of Lovie Smith not because of him. The ownership felt the same way and three days after the end of the 2015 season, he was released from his contract. Click here for a collection of pictures from his Buccaneer coaching career
