DIRK KOETTER 19-29 Dirk Koetter was announced as the 11th head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on January 15, 2016 having been promoted from his role of Offensive Co-Ordinator where he had led the 2015 Bucs to the best offensive season in franchise history. He had experience as a co-ordinator with both the Jaguars and Falcons in the NFL and has twice been a head coach in the college ranks leading Boise State and Arizona State to a record of 66-44. He also played quarterback at Idaho State from 1978 to 1981 and was a part of the school’s 1981 Division 1-AA national championship team. His promotion was seen as being a need for continuation of his development of Jameis Winston at quarterback and the Bucs did post some impressive offensive numbers during his three years as head coach. But the defense never really came around, some key draft picks failed to pan out and after two straight 5-11 seasons in 2017 and 2018, was released from his contract shortly after the 2018 season came to an end.
