We begin the construction of the all-time roster with the defensive ends, fitting really as the first pick in franchise history was a defensive end who went on of course to become the first Buccaneer in the Hall of Fame, Ring of Honor and who is regarded as the greatest Buccaneer of all-time. The other starter and two back-ups took a lot more thought however.STARTER - DE LEE ROY SELMONNine seasons with the Bucs, franchise leader in sacks, Hall of Fame, Ring of Honor and previously the name on the best restaurant in all of Tampa. No question at all about his place in the starting line-up for this roster. A truly wonderful human being and someone who is greatly missed following his passing in September 2011. It was an honour to have known him and be considered his friend.STARTER - DE SIMEON RICEPlayed for the Bucs from 2001-06 and ranks third in franchise history for sacks including five consecutive double-digit seasons. Had two sacks in the Super Bowl and was the real pass rush threat on that team. Only went to two Pro Bowls as a Buccaneer and was sent home from one for his erratic behaviour. Definitely an interesting character off the field as his book reveals. Not near worthy of the NFL Hall of Fame as some people think and not even a candidate for the Ring of Honor but definitely the other starter on this roster.BACK-UP - DE JASON PIERRE-PAULArrived in Tampa in a 2018 trade with the Giants and had three outstanding pass-rush seasons including being a huge part of the Super Bowl victory over the Chiefs and made the Pro Bowl that season too. Was at the end of his career when he played for the Bucs after eight years in the Big Apple but the former USF Bull had a huge impact when he was with the Buccaneers.BACK-UP - DE GREG SPIRESThis one was a harder decision but Spires was a massively under-rated part of the Super Bowl team that beat the Raiders, playing primarily as a run stopper. Played six seasons with the Bucs having arrived in 2002 as a free agent signing from Cleveland and only missed one start in the first five years. HONORABLE MENTIONSChidi Ahanotu of course believes on social media he was one of the greatest players in Buccaneer history but the film tells a different story. Good yes, but most of his numbers came as a result of all the disruption Warren Sapp caused alongside him. He never came close to any kind of league honours and is not on par with the four players named above.William Gholston and John Cannon had long careers in Tampa Bay but longevity does not earn you a place on this roster, whilst Santana Dotson was more of a one-year rookie wonder in 1992. Marcus Jones had one outstanding season and not a lot else and Stylez G White would alert the fashion police rather than all-time Buccaneer scouts.
