OCTOBER 2009 - THE WEEKEND THE BUCCANEERS CAME TO LONDON The two teams for the third International Series event were announced in January 2009 and when the word came through that it would be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing host to the New England Patriots, everyone connected with the Bucs UK realised that the 25th anniversary of the club was going to be something pretty special. Which of course proved to be just a slight understatement. A Hall of Famer and two Pro Bowlers turning up at the touch football, non-stop media coverage across Florida for the Bucs UK, and the chance for 300+ members of the club to watch their team play in fantastic seats behind the Buccaneer bench.  There was a superb Bucs UK meal in London the night before the game and the biggest-ever get-together of club members at the pre-game tailgate party outside Wembley Stadium.

THE WRITTEN WORD As well as the events of the weekend appearing in every Tampa-based publication, many of the Bucs UK members involved wrote their own personal accounts of the Buccaneers’ visit.

THE GAME ITSELF It was not close as the final score of 35-7 Patriots reveals but it almost seemed incidental to the events of the weekend.  Josh Freeman made his first appearance late in the 4th quarter and every Bucs UK member who was there went home knowing they had been part of history.     Click here for the BUCPOWER.COM game reports, stats and pictures screen
