Chris Simms
Diving for a play-off TD
Raymond James Stadium
7 January 2006

The background
The Buccaneers were back in the play-offs for the first time since the Super Bowl having taken the NFC South Division title on the back of their 4-0 start. Chris Simms had replaced the injured Brian Griese at quarterback and had thrown for over 2,000 yards in his 10 starts showing a real ability to throw the deep ball.

And then came the Wild Card game against the Redskins in which the defense held Washington to just 120 yards of offense but turnovers killed the Bucs in the end. That and Edell Shepherd dropping the apparent tying touchdown late in the game too of course.

The game situation
The Bucs were trailing 17-3 with just over five minutes gone in the second half and faced 3rd and Goal at the Washington 2-yard line. Chris Simms rolled left and seeing no-one open in the endzone, went for glory himself with a spectacular diving touchdown.
