The win on the West Coast
Candlestick Park
26 October 1980

The background
The Buccaneers' record on the West Coast is pretty appalling. Occasional wins in Los Angeles and San Diego and of course a Super Bowl, but the record in San Francisco is just downright atrocious. One win in 32 years of trying.

And that one win came in 1980 during what was a really disappointing season that came on the back of the run to the NFC Championship game the previous year. A 2-0 start fell away to a 5-10-1 mark on the season and only this one win against Bill Walsh's future NFL powerhouse shed any light in the final three months of the season.

The game situation
The Bucs were trailing 23-21 late in the game when Doug Williams led them downfield on a drive that covered 68 yards in 11 plays and included an 11-yard completion to Ricky Bell on 4th & 9. In came kicker Garo Yepremian (he of the botched pass in the Miami Super Bowl win over the Redskins) and his 30-yard fieldgoal gave the Bucs their only win in San Francisco.
