Unbeaten, unbelievable
Soldier Field, Chicago
30 September 1979

The background
The amazing ride that was the 1979 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Denis Crawford has written enough on this team in his book McKay's Men, but there was no way we could complete this countdown without a play from the game that took the Bucs to 5-0 on the season.

The Bears were still formidable in their own back yard and no-one realistically expected Tampa Bay to waltz in their and take another road victory to add to the amazing one they had gained in Baltimore three weeks earlier.

But into Chicago they went and thanks to two big plays, they came out 5-0. Doug Williams to Isaac Hagins was the game winner in the fourth quarter and this play was the scoring opener.

The game situation
The second quarter had just started and the Bucs were at their own 39-yard line. Jerry Eckwood swept right and avoided more Bear tacklers than he could count on his way to the endzone.

Whereas the top 20-30 plays do stand out and are able to be ranked subjectively (and have been by some of the Tampa media), the early plays are generally spread out across the years and can only be placed approximately in terms of their importance.
