The first ever Buc win
Louisiana Superdome
11 December 1977

The background
26 times the Buccaneers had taken the field in a regular season NFL game. 26 times they had returned to the locker room as losers. And then they won.

It came in New Orleans and was mainly down to the defense carrying the woeful 1977 offense with six interceptions of which three went for touchdowns.

And it was this score by Mike Washington that really turned the fortunes of the franchise and is the one that all the players I have spoken to involved in the game, was the one that made them realise they were going to win.

The game situation
The Bucs had led 13-0 at half-time but had gone three and out to open the second half. The Saints had 2nd & 14 from their own 42-yard line when Bobby Scott threw a pass to the left side that was picked off by Washington. 45 yards later and the Bucs were on their way to that elusive first victory in franchise history.
