One game for the title
The Detroit Silverdome
20 December 1981

The background
The Bucs had missed their chance to clinch the NFC Central Division title a week before when they lost on a late fieldgoal to San Diego. Now they faced a trip to Detroit with the winners taking the playoff berth and the losers staying home.

The Lions, behind QB Eric "Let it ripple with" Hipple, were strong favourites, but a fumble return touchdown by David Logan, and this long passing play from Doug Williams to Kevin House, took the Bucs to a 20-17 victory that was more comfortable than the final score indicated.

The game situation
The Bucs were trailing 7-3 in the second quarter and had just forced a decisive turnover when Cedric Brown picked off Eric Hipple deep in the Buc redzone. John McKay decided to go for the quick strike and called a bomb to Kevin House down the right sideline. 84 yards later and the Bucs were on their way to their second division title in three years and the Detroit crowd was silenced on the spot.
