Scot Brantley's big hit
Tampa Stadium
24 November 1985

The background
Scot Brantley is more well known in Tampa now for being a former colour commentator on Buc radio and for his other local media connections, than for the eight years he spent playing linebacker for the Buccaneers.

A tough hard-nosed inside player, Scot came from a successful college career at Florida but was only drafted in the 3rd round after some injury concerns going into the 1980 draft.

But one hit that he made during the 1985 season earned him his place so high in our countdown. In all the years I have been watching the Bucs, this is still the biggest hit I have ever seen. QB Eric Hipple did return to the game on the Lions' next series, but the Bucs went on to win in Steve Young's first NFL start at quarterback.

The game situation
The Lions had 1st & 18 from their own 8-yard line on their opening drive of the game. Hipple rolled left but did not see Brantley coming behind fellow Buc linebacker Chris Washington.
