The first punt return TD
Tampa Stadium
2 October 1994

The background
With all the furore surrounding Micheal Spurlock's kick return touchdown (which just might make our Top 10 plays!), Buc fans often forget that it took until the 19th season of the franchise's existence for the team to even have a punt return touchdown.

All that ended when Vernon Turner, kick returner, fielded a punt during the first quarter of the Week 5 match-up with the Lions. A couple of key blocks down the right sideline, including the final one by Mazio Royster, and history was made in Tampa.

Special teams' coach George Stewart was just behind Turner running down the sideline and was the happiest man in town after the play.

Turner only played 13 games for the Bucs but also came oh so close to taking a kick return back for a score later in 1994 against the Vikings.

The game situation
The Lions were punting with just under five minutes left inthe 1st quarter.
