As time moves on, some former Buccaneers are sadly no longer with us. Here we will pay a lasting tribute to them particularly when there is a story behind their passing that Tampa Bay fans should know.

Jerry Anderson
Safety 1978
Only played two games for the Bucs but became a hero in his home town after dying in saving a local boy from drowning.

Ricky Bell
Running back, 1977-81
Well-known story about his tragic death from a heart disease that was made into a film starring Mario van Peebles.

Neal Colzie
Safety, 1980-83
Passed away in 2001 having been with the Bucs for four seasons in the early 1980s. Had some drug issues on leaving the NFL too.

Steve Courson
Guard, 1984-85
Long-time Steeler who spent two years in Tampa. Died in an accident at his home when a tree fell on him in November 2005.

Ivory Curry
Safety 1987
A member of the replacement team from 1987 and started two games. Died at the tender age of 28 from pneumonia.

Demetrius DuBose
Linebacker, 1993-96
Shot by police following a disturbance at his house in San Diego in 1999. Had some domestic issues on leaving the NFL.

Bobby Futrell
Safety 1986-90
Former USFL and Buccaneer defensive back who tragically committed suicide in 1992 after his pro football career had ended in the CFL with Toronto.

Brice Hunter
Wide Receiver,1997-98
Was shot dead in a disturbance outside his home in Chicago in April 2004. Had a basketball tourney named for him in Georgia in 2005.

David Logan
Nose tackle, 1979-86
Not just known for his eight years on the field, but was also the Bucs' radio commentator for several seasons too. Died from a heart attack at the age of 42.

Jeff Modesitt
Tight end, 1987
Played one game for the 1987 strike team and had also seen time with the Falcons. Was shot in a bar altercation in 1990.

George Peoples
Running back, 1984-85
Played just eight games and had one carry as a Buccaneer. Found dead in a Tampa motel room in 2003.

Reggie Roby
Punter, 1995
Played one season in Tampa during a long NFL career but was found dead at his home at the age of just 43.

Stanley Shakespeare
Wide Receiver, 1987
Played just one game for the replacement Bucs. A former college standout, he died in a boating accident in 2005.

Dan Turk
Center, 1987-88
Died at just 38 from cancer having played in the NFL just 12 months before his passing. Was a Buc for two seasons.

John McKay
Head coach, 1976-84
His legacy to the Tampa Bay franchise is complete through his nine year coaching career and through his two sons, JK and Rich. Died in 2001.

Hugh Culverhouse
Owner, 1976-1994
The first owner of the Bucs having been granted the expansion franchise in 1974. Not unduly popular for over-seeing the losing decades with a lack of spending on and off the field.
Theo Bell
Wide Receiver, 1981-85
Played five seasons as the No.3 receiver having won two SB rings in Pittsburgh. Died from liver failure..

Ron Hall
Tight end, 1987-1993
Spent seven seasons in Tampa and remains the 2nd beat tight end in franchise history after Jimmie Giles. Died in 2007.
