Wayne Maw reviews the Buccaneer draft

1st round: Michael Clayton
He appears to be an unpopular pick especially with DJ Williams and Steven Jackson available and either of these would have been fine but I think this is a fantastic pick having seen him in SEC games and I have a friend who spent two years at LSU and he raves about this guy. Clayton has great hands and he is very athletic, blocks well and runs very good routes… to me sounds perfect for Gruden's offense. There were a small group of receivers (Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, Reggie Williams and Clayton) who are potentially elite receivers and Clayton could easily turn out to be one of the better than some taken above him.

3rd round: Marquis Cooper
This guy could be a bit of a reach, but he does fit the Buccaneers idea of a linebacker, he is very quick and has good instincts, he is a little undersized but should be good in the Buccaneers system and if nothing else should be a force on special teams

4th round: Will Allen
In my opinion this is an absolute steal, opinion tends to vary a lot regarding Allen but he has been a playmaker on one of the best defences in college, can play either nickel back or safety which gives him good versatility which can only help him and again he should be a big contributor, he has however only started one season.

5th round: Jeb Terry
Don’t really understand this pick especially after selecting three offensive line products last year (and Nimmo not making the team anyway) and given that we have so many offensive lineman currently on the roster, this pick doesn’t look great, his prospects as a long snapper is probably the reason he was drafted.

6th round: Nate Lawrie
This guy must be the happiest guy on earth today, he wasn’t expected to get drafted, he has good statistic but playing in the Ivy League you would hope so looks like he could be good but will need a lot of work, don’t like this pick we need help at tight end but there were a couple of high rated tight end prospects still available.

7th round: Mark Jones
Quite like this pick has special teams written all over him, played safety, receiver and returns punts, don’t know if we will have space on the game day roster for a player like this but he certainly has potential.

7th round: Casey Cramer
TE/HB/FB not quite sure how they want use this guy, probably got drafted for special teams use, did well at the east/west game

7th round: Lenny Williams
I know nothing about this guy other than he was Defensive Player of the Year in the SWAC, looked him up on some of the scouting service and they have nothing on him.
