I have been into American Football since about 1985 and one of the first games that I saw on Channel 4 was a game that the Bucs played. I cannot remember who they played or who won the game but not only was I hooked on the game but on the Bucs as well.
I can only think that I must have liked the logo or uniform or something equally as sad.I also like all the hoopla of the game as the Americans do do showbiz and hoopla very well.
Everyone that I know apart from one friend who is a Cowboys' fan (but I do not hold that against him) thinks that I am a nut case.
As we all know there has been a lot of down times to go with the current good ones but I think at least in part that is why I like and support them why we all support them.
I also like all the characters that have been in the game as much as I think a lot of them are idiots like Keyshawn Johnson and Terrell Owens (thank God we stayed away from Owens after the Eagles let him go).
I like this game as it is nothing like anything that we have over here it's bigger faster and bettor and the cheerleaders aren't that bad either. I think that the weather helps as a lot of the teams are in warm/hot climates.
I have only been lucky enough to go to Tampa once way back in 1993 before I had heard of any of the UK based fan clubs (I did not at the time even think that there would be any). It was a two week holiday, a week in Tampa and a week in Orlando (Tampa is a lot better) and although I did not get to see a game I did manage to see the Old Sombrero.
I felt really very lucky when they said that I could have a wonder around if I wanted to and sit in the stands and although I could only go in the public areas it was still a huge thrill and to this day is one of my favourite memories of any holiday that I have ever had.
