"Well both the Arena League and NFL Europe had their finals last weekend and although I did not see much of the World Bowl, I did catch the Arena Bowl final and from what I saw both games were brilliant.
The World Bowl was the better of the two games. The Arena game was the game that came over alot lot better.
The TV networks in the States did the European league no favours with the coverage at all and (I know that NFLEL will never be to the standard of the NFLl). It will need money sent its way for it to be able to get better and after a time the owners in the NFLl will start to get their money back in terms of a greater number of players making their teams. The money they will start to get back with a better product, ie more people will watch, which in turn more merchandise sold and bigger and better deals from the TV networks.
Thankfully the numbers of people going to the games live are going up. This is a good sign and hopefully will keep the league in Europe alive and just keeps on coming back . But somehow from the rumours that are coming from across the pond, I do not think that the future looks to good for professional American football this side of the pond.
On a lighter note, it would be really good if the NFL did bring back the American Bowl that would be really cool if the Bucs were one of the first teams over as well.
Nice idea Geoff about NFL Europe but it's pie in the sky. When the World League first started in 1991 and even when it came back in 1995, teams embraced the idea of developing players. But the NFL in 2005 is a different world and every team would rather develop their players in year-round camps rather than send them to get injured on what they consider the other side of the world.
The Arena League is like watching five-a-side football. OK for five minutes but then you switch over. Still, the advert with Jon Bon Jovi and John Elway was funny (well at least until I saw it for the 30th time).
But if the American Bowl does return to London (and it's never stopped happening Geoff, such as when the Bucs played in Japan in 2003), then there is a very good chance that the Buccaneers will be involved due to the Glazer family ownership of Manchester United.
