EATING OUT IN TAMPA BAY
The Tampa Bay area boasts a wide range of restaurants so visitors to Training Camp 2002 are guaranteed to find something to suit their needs. Football fans will be especially interested in visiting Shula's Steak House, on West Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa. The chain is owned by former Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula and is a popular upscale restaurant that boasts the best beef steaks in town. Also on the menu at Shula's Steak House is chicken, lamb, lobster, Norwegian salmon, dolphin and Florida snapper. For reservations call (813) 286 4366. Listed alphabetically are some of Tampa Bay's finest restaurants.
Sure everyone frequents "Hooters" and I'm not saying go to "Beef O Brady’s" instead, but as well as. Their nuclear hot wings are truly legendary which is possibly why these franchise bars are sprouting up throughout the States. There are soon top be half a dozen in the Tampa area alone and most notably for Bucs fans there is one on Dale Mabry Hwy N, another on Hillsborough Ave W and one just off the newly named Lee Roy Selmon Expy formerly S Crosstown Expy. The relevant Web Site for this food chain is www.beefobradys.com. On the same theme (food), for those combining an Orlando Vacation with Tampa, well just off Interstate 4 between Plant City and Lakeland at exit 15 go south to US 92 then east for 1 1/2 miles to Red Barn Steak House Restaurant & Lounge for award winning best quality fresh cut steaks. 6150 New Tampa Hwy. (US 92), Lakeland, Florida. Telephone:- 941-686-2754. Rob Shaw
I also have a recommendation for a restaurant on Dale Mabry at the corner of i think Westshore called J Alexanders and it is basically a really good restaurant, not too far from the stadium that offers burgers, pizzas, salads, the usual. Marc Kemp
A must for after the Bucs game is to go to Hooters on Hillsborough Avenue. They have all the NFL games on there plus WWNZ has its post game show in there. I went there with Steve Garget after the Cowboys game. We only had a 20-minute wait for a table and the food was good and of course there are the waitresses! If there was no football and the food was bad it would still be worth visiting. Paul Greenfield
There was also a good Mexican joint near our hotel, called the Guadalajara...on that big e/w road, 528 was it? North of RJ...I had a fine dinner there with TV's Nick Halling Mike Carlson
Superb rib diner at reasonable cost. Take Gulf Boulevard north to Madeira Beach. Take a right across the Madeira Beach Causeway and look left when you come down the other side. You will see a galleon-type ship which is a restaurant in behind McDonalds. It was called the Brown Derby but I think it has now changed its name. Ian Stevenson
Hooters – any branch will do – just go in and admire the view. But the two best sports bars Phil and I found are Press Box and Damon’s Ribs.
Press Box is about two miles south on Dale Mabry from Raymond James Stadium, on the left hand side just after you go under I-275. It has a bunch of big screen TVs, great food and a really good atmosphere. And it’s open well into the night.
Damon’s Ribs is the place to go on a Saturday afternoon to watch college football. Four big screens, plus they set up large watching rooms for the big games like Florida v Tennessee. Damon’s is part of the Radisson Bay Harbor Inn hotel on the way out of Tampa towards Clearwater before you reach the Causeway across the Bay. Look out for the staff wearing Bucs UK badges especially Marvin, the only West Indian cricket fan in Florida.
