Film -The Waterboy
OK, first of all it is not just a gridiron film. Which is probably just as well because the football action sucks.
This is Adam Sandler in his early days proving that he can play the dumb schmuck and pull some faces. A bit like Jim Carrey before everyone realised that was all there was to him.
Sandler is the waterboy of a minor college team who suddenly realises that when he gets upset, he can turn into the second coming of Dick Butkus. Err, and that is it in terms of the plot.
The coach is Henry Winkler, aka the Fonz from Happy Days. Who of course is so typecast that you expect to see him in a leather jacket and riding a motor-cycle.
The likes of Lee Corso, Bill Cowher, Dan Fouts and Chris Berman all play themselves in the film.
The only part of the film that made me laugh, and I mean the only part, was right at the start when the mascot and the cheerleaders are having a drinking contest on the sideline during a game. The rest of the film totally sucks so watch it for curiousity sake if it is on TV but don't waste your money buying it.
Buccaneer Connections
Peter Dante plays the part of opposing QB Gee Grenouille. His stunt double was former Buccaneer strike QB Mike Hold.
Another of the opposing QBs is played by former Buccaneer Pat O'Hara.
