Lincoln Elementary in Palm Beach County has a talented staff of teachers who are ensuring student success. Two people that stem from this team of highly motivated instructors are Mr. Dale Robinson and Mr. Lamar Glenn. Both have switched gears in their careers to become teachers, and they are making a positive difference in the lives of their students. Glenn, a former professional football player, is now a fifth grade English teacher at Lincoln Elementary. He was drafted in 1999 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a fullback, and then played in the Arena League with the North Carolina Prowlers. He was still playing football this past summer when he decided to become a teacher. At age 27, Glenn began to realize there were possibly no long-lasting opportunities for him in football. He wanted to do more by helping others learn their full potential. "My dream is to help kids find their dreams," said Glenn. "I bring a realistic side of professional sports to the kids who think the only way they can succeed is through sports." Glenn shares his past with his students by showing them his championship rings from his years at Florida State University. He also tells them his life story growing up in Daytona Beach in a single-family home with his brother. "Teaching is not as stressful as football was for me," said Glenn. "However, I am now responsible for the lives of 25 kids, and I take that very seriously." Dr. Shirley Cox, literacy coordinator, mentors all new teachers at Lincoln Elementary and is responsible for staff development. She said Robinson and Glenn are unique and special. "These 'out-of-field' teachers have their hearts in it," she said. "They bring other career experiences to the table that education teachers can't bring."
