Why I do what I do
I guess I do set myself up for some of the criticism I sometimes take around the British gridiron community. I am not afraid to speak my mind and I have been in the limelight of the sport in this country for over 20 years now. Other fan clubs have come and gone but the Bucs UK has been there throughout and I have been doing what I love doing all along - writing about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I cannot even begin to guess how much time I have spent on this hobby. From writing 197 issues of "There's Always Next Year" to launching BUCPOWER back in January 2002. From listening to games on Armed Forces Radio, to watching Pontel game DVDs whilst doing the ironing.

I have more Bucs polo shirts and other memorabilia than Buc Heaven probably stocks. I have over 300 Buc games on DVD and every worthwhile book or magazine on the team or the sport worth owning. And of course, a very understanding wife and daughter!

And the reason I do what I do, and something that Kerrie repeats to me as often as I talk about the Bucs - it's because I enjoy it.

We are all different, we have different tastes in life, in music, in fashion and in sport. But you are reading this article and visiting BUCPOWER because you like the Buccaneers. And I like writing about them and running the site. Because believe me, if I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't do it!

Running the Bucs UK has brought me into contact with a lot of wonderful people around the world. To list them all would take a lot more than one editorial. but if you have ever met or spoken to me, then you know I appreciate the friendship and the fact that you have taken the time to get in touch. I love hearing from Buc fans all over the globe who enjoy coming to BUCPOWER and reading about the history of the franchise.

The Buccaneers are not the be-all and end-all of my life, far from it. In fact behind my family, health, job and golf, they do honestly come a distant fifth. But the hours I spend editing the website, researching old information, it's all something I really enjoy and just love doing.

I have no interest whatsoever in making my hobby a full-time profession. Some people in the gridiron media world may find it hard to believe, but I have a job that I love doing and would never give it up to freelance on the NFL, 10-pin bowling, or whatever sport someone wanted me to cover. I did a few shows for Sky Sports in the past, but again, people who know me, know that I have a really do have a philosophy of "been there, done that, got the T-shirt". So what's next?

For 2007, it's just to keep doing what I do best and what I love doing. Editing the best damn NFL team website in the world. So many people come to this site and so many people are involved in it, that to stop now would be a travesty. Former ICI chairman,John Harvey-Jones, once gave me some advice - "if you are standing still, then you are actually going backwards."

So look for BUCPOWER to keep going forwards in 2007 and beyond with new articles, new features and even more on the history of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And why? Because I love what I do!

A very Happy New Year to one and all!
