Heading down the road to nowhere
Before the days of sat-navs, we used to follow a map, turn down a road and keep driving until we found our destination. And if we got lost, we would stop the car, unfold the map and look puzzled until we made a decision on what to do next.

TURN AROUND WHEN POSSIBLE
The 2015 Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Lovie Smith are driving down that road right now. Lost. Completely lost. Lost as in giving up bucket loads of points to non-offensive juggernauts as the Panthers, Jaguars and Redskins. Lost as in seeing more flags than at a North Korean national rally.

TURN AROUND WHEN POSSIBLE
It is often written that a team takes on the personna of its coach. This team is playing without any kind of fire, emotion, discipline or structure. There are some truly bright spots such as the development of Jameis Winston and the offensive line and that comes down to co-ordinator Dirk Koetter who is doing a truly amazing job so far this season.

But the defense is truly appalling and every Buccaneer fan sat watching those last two minutes yesterday knowing full well that the Redskins were going to march downfield and complete the greatest comeback in their long franchise history.

TURN AROUND WHEN POSSIBLE
I am not going to sit here and blame the Glazer family for making Lovie the head coach in January 2014. At the time it was absolutely the right decision. A proven and experienced winning NFL coach with ties back to the re-build of the franchise under Tony Dungy in 1996.

The road was sign-posted for the right destination, everyone agreed that we should turn the car in that direction and it all looked good when we set off.

TURN AROUND WHEN POSSIBLE
There were complaints in some areas of the Buccaneer fan base a few weeks ago when it was dared to write that Lovie might be in trouble as head coach. Sunday's loss in Washington proved the comments were spot on. You cannot keep driving aimlessly on the same road when you are lost, hoping beyond all hope that you might magically find yourself in the right place.

You have to cut your losses, turn the car round and start again. Accept you made a mistake and start dealing with the consequences that continue blindly on. Sorry Lovie but your time is up. Dirk Koetter, you now have the map.
