My 10 favourite Buccaneers
Following on from the editor's lead on this subject, time for the nominations from the Bromfield jury.
Derrick Brooks
Certain Hall of Famer, best player Ive ever seen in a Buc shirt and one of the most classiest guys around. Brought professionalism and accountability to all his teammates on our famed D.
Warren Sapp
Admittedly not the most loveable character but after years of having sand kicked in our faces and being ridiculed by the rest of the NFL landscape, he brought brashness, swagger, arrogance and the play to back it all up. Thanks Warren for some great memories.
Warrick Dunn
Had the virtual shit knocked out of him on many inside runs, thanks to our resident wizard offensive co-ordinator Mike Shula but showed more flash and speed to go with it when he correctly got the ball in the open field. All round good guy who also helped raise his siblings after his mother sadly died and has given his all on the field of play wherever he's been.
James Wilder
Buc legend, best back in history and scored on a 45 yard TD run in the first Buc game I saw (Buffalo 1986) - that sealed it for me. Our team in the 80's was largely a bucket of shit, but James was at least a ribbon around the outside of the aforementioned bucket.
Lee Roy Selmon
The Bucs' one and only Hall of Famer who played his entire career for us. What more can you say.
Ronde Barber
Part of one of the greatest TD combos in NFL history - McNabb to Barber - who have hooked up for 3 notable long range scores. Ive never seen a quicker DB come off the corner on as blitz than Ronde who's like a blurr and almost always makes the sack and often stripped the ball too.
Mark Carrier
Had one outstanding season and a few other decent ones too. Quiet guy who was the focal point of our passing game in the late 80's. Loved his smarts at getting open, even when he was always option 1 and 1a.
Ervin Randle
Have you seen his hit on Neal Anderson? Awesome, and he played a mean middle backer in the 80's but this was lost on the bad teams he suited up for. The Viper was an apt nickname.
Hardy Nickerson
Similar to Sapp he helped change the whole mentality of the franchise around. Only sorry he missed getting the Super Bowl ring he deserved - led the best Buc D Unit I ever saw in 1999 that should have gone to the Super Bowl.
Mike Alstott
How can you not love the guy. Career Buc who has made some of the highlight runs in our history. Scored the clincher against the Lions in our long awaited play-off return in 1997/8 though I never saw him cross into the end zone as I had run off into the garden with my lager in celebration when he broke loose.
