Originally drafted by the Vikings in 1992, he spent his first three seasons as a back-up before playing five games in 1995 after a successful spring with the London Monarchs. Lost his starting job to Randall Cunningham in 1998 due to injury and was then traded to the Redskins. Started for two seasons in Washington and went to the 2000 Pro Bowl, but was allowed to leave in favour of Jeff George by the Redskins' front office and signed a $28 million five-year contract with the Buccaneers.
