THE LEAGUE - David Harris
A legal history of the NFL under Pete Rozelle - published in 1984.
The BUCPOWER.COM review
The best book I had ever read about the game until "Bringing The Heat" came along. This is the story of the Pete Rozelle years as Commissioner of the NFL, how the league fought off the WFL, the USFL and Al Davis, and how the corporate giant that the NFL is today, came about.
All the owners, Hugh Culverhouse, Leonard Tose, Art Modell, Carroll Rosenbloom and the rest are featured, with not one of them coming out whiter than white.
It's hard going at times as much of the book deals with the many legal battles that the NFL became involved in during the 1970s and 1980s, but the stories about franchise ownership changes will give you a new insight into the NFL.
