Around the Pirate Ship
Welcome to a popular regular weekly feature on BUCPOWER.COM. Each week, I will ask some of the regular correspondents of the Bucs UK, what they think about a particular situation affecting the Buccaneers or the NFL in general.
And in the style of ESPN's superb "Around the Horn" program, you'll get their differing opinions. And each week, we will open the question and discussion up on the message board to hear what everyone else thinks ... HORN!
We have a panel of regular Bucs UK correspondents so will rotate the participants each week to get a fair share of differing opinions on a variety of subjects.
What are you looking for from Super Bowl XLIV?

What am I looking for? I am looking for a truly great game. It’s unusual for the two best NFL teams to actually meet in the Super Bowl, so everything points to a memorable night. Should be quite a party in Miami .
Talking of parties, has anyone had e-mails from nfl.com about their official ticket exchange? Had a quick look on there and bearing in mind the face value of game tickets ranges from $500-$1,000, the cheapest one on there would set you back $1,680. The most expensive was for around $237,000 and included hospitality for your buddies, a few bowls of crisps and "entertainment". I think for that price I’d expect Reese Witherspoon & Hayden Panettiere to be the entertainment before, during and after the game and also serving the food!
Back to reality though! As far as the game coverage is concerned, although I enjoy the NFL on Sky, I will probably watch the BBC as they have generally presented the big game pretty well and there are of course no adverts. Jake Humphrey has done a decent good job previously and Mr Carlson needs no introduction.
Result-wise, I hope the Saints win - I know they are a divisional rival, but for an area still trying to recover post-Katrina, it would get a big boost from a victory, plus the Colts have recently won the big one and have also pi$$ed everyone off by tanking an unbeaten season, so Go Saints!

More than anything I just hope that the game lives up to its billing. These are the two best teams in the NFL, on paper at least, and the two best offenses too.
I think what we're all looking for is a 100 point shootout with a record number of passing yards on each side of the ball and numerous turnovers.
As someone who would rather not see the Manning family add another ring to their already over inflated sense of importance within the NFL I hope the Saints and rightful League MVP Drew Brees perform how we know they can on the biggest stage of them all.
Throw a last second Peyton Manning fumble on his own goal line which Saints recover for the win and I'd be pretty satisfied.
On the viewing experience I'll go with the BBC again this year as Sky's "Look at Halling at the big game" BS makes me physically ill. Several good food and beer decisions will be made throughout the evening at the Howells household I am sure and I look forward to toasting Mr Brees before sleeping until Wednesday to get over it!

Settling down with a beer, just as everyone else in the house is going to bed. Waiting impatiently as UKTV runs the Beginners Guide to American Football for the fourth time prior to the start of the game. Listening to incessant ramblings from some British "personality" who used to play American Football for the local Under 14's flag football team and therefore is a football Oracle.
Checking in with the big Super Bowl Party at some Sports Bar in London where a bunch of pissheads in a variety of football colours cheer and salute the camera with their £5 a bottle designer foreign beers as scantily clad TV presenter tries to look pretty as she mispronounces the names of the participating cities and asks bland and pointless questions to some of the more literate pissheads who are already too drunk to string three words together.
As kick off approaches and the strains of the Star Spangled Banner waft across the airwaves, a final thought back to San Diego all those years ago when it finally didn't matter if it was a good game or not...........only that my team won!
After no score in the first quarter, convincing myself that I'll give it to half time. After one of the participants takes a 21 point lead in the second quarter, convincing myself that a comeback could be on the cards, despite the fact that even the personality/Oracle knows it's a done deal.
Wishing the Oracle would shut up so we can see the half time show in case one of the female "artistes" has a wardrobe malfunction and gets her breasts out for the boys.............well, I can live in hope. Lightning can strike twice, you know (keep your head down, Paul).
As the lead increases to 30, wishing I'd gone to bed at half time, before convincing myself I may as well stay up to the end now. Watching the Vince Lombardi trophy being presented and looking at my watch only to realise my alarm will be going off in less than 2 hours. Ever asked yourself why they don't play the Super Bowl on a Saturday night?

What am I looking for out of Super Bowl XLIV?
Well frankly I doubt if I will watch it live. It's too damn late for an old man who needs lots of beauty sleep. I will Sky+ it and watch it a day later, wizzing through the prelims, the time outs and the interminable adverts...... by that time I'll know if I've won the Bucs UK prediction competition (the most important prize!).
I'll be looking forward to seeing The Who in the halftime show. Yes - I am old enough to remember them from the 60s. Not quite the same since the sad departure of Keith Moon mind - would have loved to have seen him go bonkers on live TV! It'll be interesting to see if Mr Townsend makes it into the US with no problems after his addition to the paedo register here - maybe we can ship the rest of them out around the world.
As for the game itself - lets hope its not the usual anticlimax we usually get. A great game with lots of touchdowns and great plays might be the order of the day looking at the two QBs involved.
I probably shouldn't want a Saints win, seeing that they our Dvisional rivals, but in view of what happed in Louisiana in the recent past, I'd like to see them win - I'll take Saints to win 31-24.
