The 2010 Buccaneer draft review
Summing up 2010
A real boom or bust draft with Gerald McCoy looking like one of the best picks in franchise history and the selections of Mike Williams and Erik Lorig being excellent together with the depth provided by Dekoda Watson and Cody Grimm. Myron Lewis was a bust and both 2nd round picks had terrible injury problems with ruined their chances of success with the Buccaneers. There really were no in-betweens with this draft.

The Bucs traded 2nd (42 overall) and 5th round (153 overall) picks to the Oakland Raiders for a 2nd round pick (39 overall). They traded two 7th round picks (225 and 232 overall) to the Denver Broncos for a 2011 5th round pick. The additional 2nd round pick came from Chicago in the Gaines Adams' trade. The Bucs' original 5th round pick went to Cleveland to complete the Kellen Winslow trade. The additional 5th round pick came from New England for TE Alex Smith. The additional 7th round pick came from Jacksonville for QB Luke McCown. The Bucs also had one compensatory 7th round pick for losing free agents.

1 - DT - Gerald McCoy - Oklahoma - Outstanding pick
Continued his ascendancy into the NFL elite with a third straight Pro Bowl season having also named second-team All-Pro after being a first-team selection in 2013. Led the Buccaneers for a second straight season but missed the final two games of the year through injury. Sees almost constant double-teaming befitting his reputation around the league. Was signed to the largest contract in franchise history when he extended his rookie deal in 2014.

2 - DT - Brian Price - UCLA - Bad pick
Was traded to the Bears before the start of training camp 2012 after concerns over injury and mental state following a tough off-season. Had made an amazing comeback from a serious pelvic injury and started all bar two games at defensive tackle in 2011. Had to have potentially career-ending surgery after his rookie season and his recovery astounded players and medical staff alike.

2 - WR - Arrelious Benn - Illinois - Bad pick
Had another injury-plagued season in 2012 and once again finished a year on injured reserve like his two previous campaigns. Had already been relegated to kick return and 4th receiver duties when he was ruled out for the year. Showed touches of real speed and receiving talent during his time in Tampa but was traded to the Eagles in March 2013.

3 - CB - Myron Lewis - Vanderbilt - Bad pick
Had three disappointing seasons as a member of the Buccaneer secondary but never showed any real ability to play at a high level and was eventually released in the 2013 pre-season. Became nothing more than a special teams' coverage player in his final season in 2012.

4 - WR - Mike Williams - Syracuse - Excellent pick
Spent four seasons in Tampa mostly as the No.2 receiver and posted Had finished agonisingly close to his first 1,000-yard NFL receiving season in 2012 and was still outstanding again throughout the year when he led the team in touchdowns and had three 100-yard games. Had engineered one of the most stunning rookie receiving seasons in NFL history in 2010 and set a team record with 11 touchdowns in a single season. His final season in Tampa was marred by rumours of off-field issues and he was eventually traded to the Bills for a low draft pick in 2014 where the issues continued to persist.

6 - P - Brent Bowden - Virginia Tech - Wasted pick
Did not make the full roster out of training camp after a disappointing pre-season and after one week on the practice squad, was released.

7 - S- Cody Grimm - Virginia Tech - Good pick
Had a solid three-year career in Tampa having made the team as a long-shot 7th round pick in 2010. Had twice replaced Tanard Jackson during his first two years as a starter in the defensive backfield and scored his first NFL touchdown in his second ever start in Cincinnati.

7 - LB - Dekoda Watson - Florida State - Good pick
Spent four seasons as primarily a special teams player but also made six starts in the process at strongside linebacker. Recorded his first NFL interception off Drew Brees in 2013 and was involved in several punt blocks in his four years in Tampa too.

7 - FB/DE - Erik Lorig - Stanford - Excellent pick
Became a solid hard-working full back during his four years with the Buccaneers and had made the position his own when he reached free agency and moved on to the New Orleans Saints. Caught his first NFL touchdown pass in the nationally-televised road victory against Minnesota in 2012. Went into his rookie training camp as a defensive end and was a gameday inactive in the season opener at that position. Switched to full back and after two weeks on the practice squad, came back up to the full roster as a member of the offense.
