Doug Williams started his first NFL game and promptly had his second pass picked off and returned for a score by Terry Jackson. He later sustained a shoulder dislocation following a hit from Gary Jeter and missed the next game.

The key play came with 6:51 left in the third quarter when Joe Pisarcik, in for future Buc Jerry Golsteyn at QB, hit Johnny Perkins for a 67-yard score. This was Tampa Bay's first regular season sell-out at Tampa Stadium.
