Right Knee Injury KOs Buenning
Katherine Smith, The Tampa Tribune, published 24 November 2006

Starting LG Dan Buenning grimaced in pain as he tried to put on a pair of shorts after Thursday's game. Buenning had difficulty putting weight on his right leg, which was wrapped in a brace, and leaned on crutches for support.

The second-year lineman was carted off the field midway through the fourth quarter and could be finished for the season with a torn ACL. He missed four starts earlier this season with a serious ankle injury. "This is a rough one," Buenning said of his season. "[Injuries] are starting to creep up on me. I had been lucky pretty much so far in my short career that I haven't had anything like that. Now they're just kind of piling up."

Sean Mahan will start for Buenning, who started every game at left guard last season. Buenning said his right foot got stuck in the Texas Stadium turf and got turned on a first-down play at the Bucs' 38-yard line when QB Bruce Gradkowski was sacked for a 10-yard loss.

If the Bucs have to place Buenning on injured reserve, he'll be the fifth starter the Bucs have lost to injury this season. QB Chris Simms, RT Kenyatta Walker, DE Simeon Rice and CB Brian Kelly already are on IR. Buenning joked with the Bucs staff as they tried to help him dress and refused to let the bleak situation get to him. "I can't be a glum drum," Buenning said. "I could be mad at the world right now, but that ain't going to help anything. I just have to take it in stride."

Welcome back Joey
: GM Bruce Allen showed highlights from WR Joey Galloway's 2005 season to a group of Bucs fans this summer. He ended the video presentation with footage of former Bucs and Cowboys WR Keyshawn Johnson dropping a pass in the end zone, noting he thought the Bucs got the better end of the March 2004 trade.

Galloway played against his former team for the first time Thursday and electrified the Bucs offense early on. Gradkowski hit Galloway for a 53-yard reception, but just like in previous games, the rookie was unable to connect with the veteran numerous times. Gradkowski missed Galloway, who had three receptions for 71 yards, on several plays. "We've got to get better on offense," Galloway said. "That's from top to bottom. We've got to do every facet better."

A-Train still chugging
The Bucs scored in the first quarter for only the fourth time this season. FB Mike Alstott's 1-yard run with 9:22 remaining turned out to be the Bucs' lone touchdown. It was his 70th career touchdown (57th rushing). Alstott left the game in the second quarter after he was shaken up by a hard hit from Dallas LB Bradie James. Alstott was taken to the locker room for evaluation, but returned to the game later in the quarter. Alstott finished with two carries for 4 yards and one reception for 4 yards.

Hovan breaks through
Chris Hovan collected his first sack of the season and his first with the Bucs since signing before the 2005 season. It also was the only sack for the Tampa Bay defense. Hovan sacked Tony Romo during the Cowboys' first possession on third-and-5, forcing them to punt - one of only two Dallas punts on the day. Hovan collected 17 sacks in five seasons with the Vikings.

Injury update
Starting FS Will Allen stopped Dallas RB Julius Jones for a 3-yard loss late in the first quarter, but suffered some kind of injury while doing so. On the next play, with Allen noticeably limping, he fell down in coverage as Romo connected with Terry Glenn for a 30-yard touchdown pass. Allen was treated by trainers on the sideline but returned to the field just before the end of the first quarter and played the remainder of the game.

Starting CB Ronde Barber was shaken up in the third quarter but returned to the game. The Bucs were missing three defensive starters. DT Ellis Wyms remained in Tampa with an ankle sprain that has kept him out of three consecutive games. Jon Bradley started in his place. LB Shelton Quarles (knee/ankle) was replaced by Barrett Ruud and DE Dewayne White started for Rice (shoulder), who was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. TE Alex Smith also did not make the trip to Dallas because of a high ankle sprain he suffered in the Washington game.

Buc notes
Derrick Brooks made his team-record 184th start.

Cadillac Williams' second-quarter 22-yard run moved him past Jerry Eckwood (1,845) for eighth place on the Bucs' all-time rushing list. Williams entered the game with 1,797 yards and finished with 17 carries for 78 yards, a 4.6 average.
