Talib's penalty proves costly

A personal-foul penalty against Bucs CB Aqib Talib cost Tampa Bay valuable time late in Sunday's game.

The Bucs trailed 21-18 with 3:44 to play and Chicago's offense facing third-and-goal at the 4-yard line. CB Ronde Barber timed the snap and tackled Bears QB Jay Cutler for a 6-yard loss, forcing Chicago to attempt a field goal.

A personal foul on Talib for sticking his fingers in the face mask of WR Roy Williams gave the Bears an automatic first down at the 6-yard line. Again the defense held, forcing Chicago to settle for a 25-yard field goal and a six-point lead with 1:55 to play.

The Bucs' offense got the ball with 1:50 to play. "You can go look at the tape and find out what happened," Talib said. "I got into a fight."

Barber didn't see the action that prompted officials to penalize Talib.

"From what I understand, it was going both ways. Roy put his hands in his face. It should have been a non-issue. For whatever reason, we got the penalty. But like I said, as a defense we stood up and got three more stops right there and gave ourselves a chance to win the football game at the end."

Using the hurry-up offense, Tampa Bay reached the Chicago 39-yard line, but QB Josh Freeman was intercepted by D.J. Moore on a third-and-10 pass over the middle with 26 seconds left.
